Written Track Description

The overall style of the track in my opinion is techno but I was aiming for a kind of lo-fi style. The genre of the track would be considered techno or house. The function I see with this song would be for gaming or to have a song play in the background. To me, the track reminds me of music that they play in a load scene during a game or at the end credits.

The meter of the track is the standard 4/4 and the tempo is also standard 120 beats per minute. I use two types of basses in the track. I use a synth bass and a bass from the sampler which I tweaked with and extended the envelope in the settings. I wanted to try and switch up to heaviness of the bass during the second portion of the track because I felt that the bass was a little harsh in the first portion but was needed during that part.

The key of the track is D minor. The melodic shape is a arch and rises and depends throughout the second half of the track. Chords used are Dm7, A7, Dm7, Dm7, Gm, C6, F6, A sus4, FM, Em, D Maj, F6, Am, C, D7, B flat Major throughout the song.

Audio recording was done on a handheld recorder in a haunted church in NJ called “Old Tennet Church” using a “Ghost Box”. My intent was to use the jump box saying words as it flipped through frequencies as a way to sample the audio and use it to set up a rhythm and/or to add to the rhythem. The original Synthesized tracks are Bass, Electric Piano, Synth and Synth Bass Bass.

Dynamic effects used were on tracks “Ghost Box 2” and “Bass”. Both had compressors added to them. The “Ghost Box 2” track has a delay used. I did have a delay on the bass as well but when checking the file I must have changed it or deleted it. I made sure that the leads were to be heard clearly so when I made the mix stage of the process I set everything to off and slowly moved up all the instruments till I felt that the mix felt balanced. I began with the leads then moved to the electric piano the to the bass and drums. I worked on the samples last because they were already a bit strong the begin with and I wanted to make sure that they didn’t over power anything.
