Dresden Project Portfolio Summary

Our portfolio showcases the culmination of our work in the "Dresden" project, a significant component of our class focused on honing our video production and sound design skills. The primary objectives of the project were to familiarize ourselves with the art of spotting for video, recording dialogue, crafting sound effects to enhance visual storytelling, and ultimately mastering the skill of seamlessly mixing all elements for a cohesive audio-visual experience.

Project Overview: The "Dresden" project challenged us to go beyond basic video production by emphasizing the critical role of sound in enhancing narrative and emotion. Our task was to create a nuanced auditory landscape that complemented and elevated the storytelling.

Spotting for Video: Spotting for video involves identifying key moments where sound can significantly contribute to the narrative. In our project, we delved into the art of pinpointing these moments, ensuring that our sound elements were strategically placed to heighten the overall viewer experience. This skill is essential in directing the audience's attention and enhancing emotional resonance.

Recording Dialogue: A crucial aspect of the project was mastering the art of recording dialogue. We learned techniques to capture clear and high-quality audio, ensuring that spoken words were not only audible but also delivered with the desired emotional impact. This skill is vital in conveying character depth and maintaining audience engagement.

Creating Sound Effects: To breathe life into the visual narrative, we explored the world of sound effects creation. From footsteps to ambient noises, we delved into the process of selecting or generating sounds that seamlessly integrated with the on-screen action. This hands-on experience allowed us to understand the power of sound in shaping the audience's perception and enhancing storytelling.

Sound Mixing: The final step in our project involved bringing all elements together through sound mixing. We learned to balance and blend dialogue, sound effects, and music to achieve a harmonious audio-visual composition. This skill is essential in ensuring that every component contributes cohesively to the overall impact of the video.

Conclusion: The "Dresden" project deepened our appreciation for the symbiotic relationship between sound and visuals. Through this portfolio, we invite you to explore the fruits of our labor—a testament to our growth and understanding of the intricate art of storytelling through the fusion of sight and sound.

Demo Reel

In the Graveyard project, the focus was on natural assets for an impeding storm coming at dusk. As the player navigates through the map they encounter assets such as Owls, fire crackling and disembodied whispers.

In the Sci-Fi level, the player explores a sci-fi facility when suddenly alarms begins to sound and an announcement of evacuation begins.

Process Video: Alarm Asset

In this video I demonstrate how I used a recording of a vacuum cleaner and then manipulated it in Pro Tools to create a Sci-Fi alarm sound.
